First – a slideshow of pictures from Lee Corkett of Weathervane Images. These are just a few… http://leecorkett.com/galleries/lisima
What a day it was. In the hours prior to the Balkan Dance Party, there was a trip to the hospital, a couple hours of AcroYoga in the sunshine, followed immediately by an intense headache and that just got progressively worse. At about 3:00 pm, just hours before the Balkan Dance Party, I felt so crippled by the neck and headache pain (too many inversions during AcroYoga) and ice and Advil weren’t helping… I allowed myself a quick nap and luckily that did the trick. I got myself together within the 20 minute timeframe that I had before we needed to leave the house and left not knowing what was to come of this night!
I arrived at Serra’s Dine n’ Dance and was overjoyed by the venue. Tables in the round, the band already starting to set up, soft lighting, a big dressing room area for my dancers. Band members and dancers started to filter in slowly; I quickly got some notes written up pertaining to the music so that I would be ready to MC. After ironing out a few hiccups (where is the doorman? where are my dancers?), the venue became filled with a lot of new appreciative faces, everyone enjoying themselves with a glass of wine and Turkish food.
Thankfully there are a ton of pictures which make me forget about the little hiccups, the potential migraine and the possibility of missing this magical evening.
