Although I stopped teaching group classes earlier this year, I still teach 2 semi-private lessons once a week. That is very rewarding to have students hire me specifically with their own plan in mind who simply want my help in helping them get to a specific goal. These semi-private students are also very motivated which makes teaching much more enjoyable.

Occasionally I get asked to sub for a group class, like tonight. I think I must miss teaching group classes because whenever I get asked I get super-excited! It’s the whole “absence makes the heart grow fonder” mentality. I especially love being asked to teach tribal fusion improv because there’s so many elements to it: working together as a group, learning about spatial awareness, visual/audio cues, and very specific styling… I simply love the aesthetic of tribal bellydance over American Cabaret (even though my own body betrays me most of the time and by nature I dance much more AC-ish).

Then there’s the insane, highly technical, often-frustrating-but-gratifying-once-you-get-it-element of layering sharp isolations that I really only get to do in tribal group classes or when working with my girls in Medianoche. My inner drill sergeant just rejoices when given the opportunity to teach some no-nonsense, twitchy combos; I get to tell people “Ok get out of your head! Think patterning, people, PATTERNING!”

Can you tell I’m excited? Elizabeth is probably thinking, “Not sure if I want crazy lady, drill sergeant scaring my students away!”  LOL
This all happens tonight at the Agoura Hills/Calabasis Community Center 27040 Malibu Hills Road, Calabasas, CA 91301. Beginning-level class begins 7:30 pm and Intermediate at 8:30 pm.
